Why
A reason to get dressed up with friends and have an incredible time! Who doesn’t love a great day party featuring: the ornate beautiful hats, sun dresses, seersucker suits, garlands of roses, mint juleps, the horse action, bow ties, a splash of makers, my old Kentucky Home, cigars, champagne, outdoor dance floor, indoor dance floor and the greatest two minutes in sports!

Q&A
Is there a dress code?
Proper Derby attire is strongly encouraged. Please view our Fashion Gallery of images on the website to see how guests come dressed for the event. It’s a reason to get dressed up! “Talk Derby to me” as they say, giddy up!

Prizes will be awarded for best dressed lady, gentleman and couple.

How and when did this event start?

The event started as a house party in 2004 and has grown significantly over the years, moving through various bars and venues, finally settling at The Redd after a four-year hiatus due to Covid. Spring 2023 marked its triumphant 16th comeback, and despite the rain, the 17th installment was a blast. We are now eagerly anticipating the 18th iconic installment of the Portland Derby.

Will the Kentucky Derby be broadcast live at The Portland Derby?

Absolutely! We will be broadcasting the last 2 minutes of the Kentucky Derby live on a huge screen. It's the perfect way to capture the excitement and thrill of the race, ensuring that attendees at The Portland Derby don't miss a moment of this iconic event.

Is this a 21+ Over event?
Yes, it is.
ID is required at the door for entry.

What security measures will be taken to ensure safety?
A professional security team will be monitoring the event along with a dedicated team of “Sober Rovers” to ensure balance and healthy party behaviors.

I’ve heard this is the largest Derby party in north America outside of Churchill Downs, is that correct?
We know this is the largest Derby party certainly on the west coast. There is a great experience in Denver, CO that rivals our size.
